세계 클래식 무대의 스타가 될 성악가를 발굴하기 위한 제41회 대구국제성악콩쿠르가 참가 신청을 받고 있다.

대구음악협회가 개최하는 대구국제성악콩쿠르는 1983년 제1회 전국성악경연대회로 시작된 후 지금까지 수백 명의 국내외 최정상급 성악가를 발굴해왔다. 지난해부터 국제 콩쿠르로 격상한 대구국제성악콩쿠르는 올해도 이탈리아 밀라노와 한국에서 예선을 치르게 된다. 현지시간 7월7일부터 8일까지 이탈리아 밀라노 베르디 국립음악원 푸치니홀에서 유럽예선이 열리며, 한국 예선은 8월4일부터 5일까지 대구콘서트하우스 그랜드홀에서 열린다.

올해는 심사 전문성과 투명성을 높이기 위해 해당 분야 세계적 권위자를 콩쿠르 심사위원으로 선정했다. 총 8개국(미국·이탈리아·러시아·불가리아·독일·한국·일본·중국)의 심사위원으로 구성했다. 특별히 올해 유럽 예선과 대구 본선 경연에는 소프라노 셰릴 스투더가 심사에 참여한다. 셰릴 스투더는 1970~1980년대 두 번의 그래미상 수상과 1989년 마리아 칼라스 상 등을 수상하면서 '미국의 마리아 칼라스'라고 불렸다. 벨칸토 오페라부터 푸치니, 이탈리아 오페라를 넘어 바그너에 이르기까지 광대한 레퍼토리를 소화한 당대 최고의 소프라노이다.

만 18~35세 미만 성악 전공자라면 국적과 관계없이 누구나 콩쿠르에 참가할 수 있다. 유럽 예선은 오는 7월3일까지, 한국 예선은 6월26일부터 7월24일까지 참가 신청을 받는다. 본선 경연자는 8월25일 대구오페라하우스에서 오케스트라와 협연하는 공개 콘서트 방식의 본선 경연을 치르게 된다. 해외 최종 본선 진출자에게는 항공료 및 체류비 100만원이 지원된다.

콩쿠르 1위(문화체육관광부장관상)에게는 상금 2천만원 등 최고상의 영예가 돌아간다. 2위(대구광역시장상, 동일문화장학재단이사장상) 2명, 3위(대구문화예술진흥원장상, <사>한국음악협회 이사장상) 2명, 심사위원장상, 대구음악협회장상, 기업상, 한국가곡상, 반주자상, 대구오페라하우스 특별상, 서울시오페라단 특별상 등을 시상한다.

The 41st Daegu International Music Competition is accepting applications to find vocalists who will become stars on the world classical stage.

The Daegu International Music Competition, hosted by the Daegu Music Association, began as the first national vocal music competition in 1983, and has so far discovered hundreds of top-notch vocalists at home and abroad. The Daegu International Music Competition, which has been upgraded to an international competition since last year, will also be held in Milan, Italy, and Korea this year. The European preliminary round will be held at the Puccini Hall of the Verdi National Conservatory of Music in Milan, Italy, from July 7 to 8, and the Korean preliminary round will be held at the Grand Hall of the Daegu Concert House from August 4 to 5.

This year, in order to increase the expertise and transparency of the screening, a world-renowned authority in the field was selected as the judge of the competition. It consists of judges from a total of eight countries (the United States, Italy, Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Korea, Japan, and China). In particular, soprano Cheryl Stooder will participate in this year's European qualifying and Daegu finals competition. Cheryl Stooder was dubbed the "Maria Callas of the United States" when she won two Grammy Awards in the 1970s and 1980s and a Maria Callas Award in 1989. It is the best soprano of the time who has performed a vast repertoire from Velcanto opera to Puccini and Italian opera to Wagner.

Anyone majoring in vocal music under the age of 18 to 35 can participate in the competition regardless of nationality. European qualifiers will be accepted until July 3, and Korean qualifiers will be accepted from June 26 to July 24. The finalists will hold an open concert-style finals contest on August 25 at the Daegu Opera House. 1 million won will be provided for airfare and stay expenses to those who advance to the final overseas finals.

The winner of the competition (Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award) will receive the highest honors, including 20 million won in prize money. The second place (Daegu Metropolitan City Mayor's Award, Dongil Culture and Arts Foundation's Chairman's Award), the third place (Daegu Culture and Arts Promotion Agency's Chairman's Award), the Daegu Music Association's Chairman's Award, the Corporate Award, the Korean Song Award, the Accompanimenter's Award, and the Seoul Opera Company's Special Award.
